Boyfriend birthday ideas?

I'm not really sure what to get my bf for his birthday.  It's coming up on the 8th, so I still have a good amount of time to shop.  This is what he kind of wants, the reason is it "kinda"  is the price.  It's a messenger bag but it costs around $100.00, which we think is "kinda" expensive for a messenger bag.

Although would actually get a lot of use out of it, transporting art supplies and other things.

I don't really know what else to get him, since I bought him a good mix of stuff for Christmas.  He wants an ipod, but I can't afford that, so too bad for him.

Any other ideas?

Where do you live anna? I can't remember right now. If you are in the us you could try to get the free ipods that are floating around if not now then for xmas and surprise him.

I am getting my bf a slow cooker for v-day since i can't find anything in the store right now.

Have you looked around for similar messenger bags to those? Some one must make a similar one for less.

I actually tried the i-pod thing, but I didn't have enough people to complete their offers.  I probably won't try that again.  I did suggest another brand of a messenger bags, but he's kind of a label whore and once he has something in mind, forget it.  I don't blame him, afterall I'm like that too.

The slow cooker is a really cool idea!  I love that it is not the expected v-day gift of candy or valentine boxers or something.

yeah I'm out of ideas on him and figure its something to help him out since he's low on time. I haven't had luck with the ipod thing either. I keep posting it over at myspace.com and harassing people over there. Maybe in another 5 years I'll have one.

What else does he like?

He's so difficult because he has such a discriminating taste.  He really likes music and art, but there's a trick...it has be a certain kind of music.  He's more accepting over art, anything unusual and chances are that he will find it appealing.  I was looking for concert possibilites, but no one he likes is coming here or anywhere around here.  He also likes video games (typical) and Japanimation.

If anyone has any ideas, I'm all ears!

ok... does he have a favorite one or just likes them? Does he like asian stuff in general or not really?

Like if you go into suncoast or sam goody they sell dragon ball z box sets that when they are on the shelf next to one another they make a picture. Something like that isn't bad.

Or Cost Plus World Market sells asian decorations if he likes that.

You could get some rice or noodle bowls and chopstick sets if he's into that.

Yeah, he is into Oriental decorations and things like that.  I'll check out Cost Plus later this week.  Here's what I'm thinking so far....going on the whole japanimation/collectible things theme:

$14.90 This is a zippo lighter with a character of Cowboy BeBop, which he liked.

$49.99 He really likes cool/crazy figurines like this....so this will be a hit.

or

$29.99 He's in love with this character, he even draws it.  He's a pothead though!

or he liked this anime cartoon

That's all I got so far.

I like #1 & #4. #3 looks like male genetalia to me. Paper lanterns are kinda cool. they are asian inspired. Oh and target has little picture/poster things of japanese symbols and what they mean. They are maybe 6x6 or 7x7. My bf loves those in his room.
